DO I HAVE TO KNOW A GOTR PARTICIPANT TO REGISTER FOR THE 5K?
No, everyone is welcome to join us! We offer three categories of registration for the 5k - running buddies, sparkle runners and community runners.
- Running buddies - a trusted adult (family member or friend) invited by a girl to run alongside her at the Girls on the Run 5k, supporting her and celebrating her accomplishment.
- Sparkle Runners - Sparkle Runners are the official 'party starter' out on the course. On the morning of the race, they may be paired with a team or simply bring the fun to all the girls along the route. Sparkle Runners must be female, 18+, and submit a background check.
- Community Runners - anyone (any age or gender) who would like to participate in the race on their own.

WHAT IF IT RAINS? WHAT IF IT'S TOO HOT?
This is an important day for our girls and the 5K will be held rain or shine. Should outside conditions become unsafe, we will notify participants through email and social media as soon as possible.
HOW WILL THE 5K START?
To provide all participants a fun and safe experience, we will be starting the race in waves based on school/site name. Each school/site will be assigned a color to designate their starting wave and there will be plenty of signage to help participants know where to go. Each wave will be directed to the start line in three to four minute intervals.
Community runners with a girl participating are welcome to join their girl's wave or start in the first wave. Runners not affiliated with a school/site are encouraged to join the first wave.
IS THE 5K TIMED?
No. We encourage girls to run or walk at their own pace, instead of competing for time or with their peers. If she wants to know her time, we suggest wearing a watch. There will be a large race clock at the finish line.
HOW LONG DOES THE 5K TAKE?
A 5K is 3.1 miles long. Each participant should run or walk at a pace that is comfortable for them.
IS THERE A COURSE TIME LIMIT?
Nope! We keep the course open until every participant crosses the finish line. Typically, the course remains open until 10:30AM (90 minutes after first wave).
HOW MANY WATER STATIONS WILL BE THERE AND AT WHAT MILES WILL THEY BE LOCATED?
There will be two on-course water stations providing water to runners at approximately the 1 and 2 mile mark of the race.
WILL MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS BE ON-SITE?
Yes, we will have a medical tent near the finish line staffed with an ambulance, EMT’s and athletic trainers. In case of a medical emergency, please dial 911 and alert race officials.
Are strollers allowed?
Yes, athletes of all ages are welcome! We ask that participants with strollers start at the back of their wave.
Can I bring my dog or pet?
Sometimes our furry friends can be the best running buddies, but for the safety of everyone, please leave all pets at home. All pets will be asked to return to the pet owner's vehicle if spotted at the event.
WILL THERE BE FOOD OR DRINKS AVAILABLE?
Water, coffee, bagels, and other post-race snacks will be available to all participants.
HOW WILL I FIND MY DAUGHTER AFTER THE 5K?
If you are not participating in the 5K, a Running Buddy (either a volunteer or coach) will be assigned to run/walk with your girl. Upon completion of the 5k running buddies will bring girls back to their team meeting spot to reunite with parents and coaches. Lost girls are encouraged to head back to their team meeting spot or the DJ stage to reunite with their families.
I REGISTERED TO RUN, BUT CAN NO LONGER RUN. CAN I GET A REFUND?
Registrations are non-refundable.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW?
This will be the first 5K for many participants. Please be positive, courteous, and patient on this incredible day. Volunteers will be available to help with questions on event morning. See you there!
