With spring fast approaching, there are many new opportunities to get outside and enjoy the beautiful Minnesota weather once more. Take family bonding to the next level, and get fit in the process! Here are some great ideas to work on fitness this spring, while staying connected as a family
1.One way to get healthy this spring is by registering for a family 5k. Sign up for the Girls on the Run 5k on June 3rd, and start training with the whole family. Girls on the Run also offers an engaging 10 week program for 3rd-8th graders which gets them prepared to run the 5k. This program helps girls train and learn life lessons along the way. 2. Start swimming again! In the land of 10,000 lakes there are more than enough options to get started, but while the weather is still warming up a nice heated pool may be the best option. Swimming is a great non-bodyweight exercise. Bring your kids along to the pool so they can enjoy some splashing around, or sign them up to learn basic swim techniques that can keep them safe in the water.
3. Grab your hiking boots and get going, there is so much Minnesota has to offer. Try one of the many hiking trails located all around the state, and bring the whole family. Fresh air will help reinvigorate everyone and start a new family tradition.
4. Take a trip to the neighborhood park. Create fun for the whole family by bringing a soccer ball or basketball. Play a game or two all together and create some fun memories! Everyone will be worn out by the end and ready for a healthy snack.
