Just 5 years ago, Mary Uran and Kori Fitschen brought the Girls on the Run program to the Twin Cities area. What started as a small, volunteer-led start-up serving 24 girls in the first season, has sparked a huge grassroots movement and high involvement across the Twin Cities area.
Our goal is to create a world where all girls recognize their limitless potential and are free to boldly pursue their dreams every day. Over the past 5 years, we have served 3,794 girls - ⅔ of that being in the last 2 seasons!!! Over the next 5 years, we are excited to serve even more girls, empowering them to be their best possible self by building their confidence and character, encouraging meaningful connections with their peers and care for others, and strengthening their overall competence.
In commemoration of our 5th Birthday, we ask that you help us in serving our 5,000th girl this Spring 2017 season! How can you get involved? Here are 5 simple ways to make an impact in our 5th year so you can help us build strong girls.
- Donate: Give $5, $50, or $500! Your gift will allow more girls to discover their potential and inspire them to pursue a happy, healthy lifestyle. You can make a donation here.
- Celebrate: We are excited to invite you to come celebrate with us on Wednesday, March 1st from 3:00-10:00 PM at Indeed Brewing Company. We wish to celebrate the significant strides we have taken in just these 5 years, the girls we have served, and the hard work, support, and donations of everyone involved during this critical start-up time to make our service not only possible, but impactful.
- Volunteer: Become a coach so that you can be directly involved in creating strong girls and see first-hand the impact you can make on these girls’ lives.

Run or Volunteer at the 5k: Run alongside our Girls on the Run in our Spring 2017 5k that will take place on Saturday, June 3rd! You can also choose to volunteer at the event; we need more than 150 race-day volunteers, and it is incredibly rewarding to see all of the girls cross the finish line and overcome an obstacle they did not think was possible.
