Girls on the Run is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.

OUR PROGRAMS

Girls on the Run Twin Cities was established as a 501(c)3 in July of 2011 by Mary Uran and Kori Fitschen. What started as a small, volunteer-led start-up serving 24 girls in its first season in the Spring of 2012 has been ignited into a rapidly-growing grassroots movement spanning the Twin Cities with plans to serve more than 3,000 girls at over 100 sites during the 2016-2017 school year.

Girls on the Run International was established in 1996 in Charlotte, North Carolina by Molly Barker. What started with thirteen girls in one school has grown to over 200 councils in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. With the help of almost 100,000 volunteers, Girls on the Run served nearly 180,000 girls in 2015, including our millionth girl! Girls on the Run continues to grow and currently hosts more than 350 end-of-season 5K events across the United States, making the Girls on the Run 5K series the largest in the country. Girls on the Run has also expanded to include middle school girls through Heart & Sole, a program dedicated to the unique needs of adolescent girls.

“I love GOTR not only because I get to see girls activate their limitless potential, but to also see how the program impacts family members, coaches, running buddies, all community members who come in contact with GOTR. I am proud to be part of a program where GOTR girls will not only grow up to be brave leaders in the future but lead and impact their community in the present.”

KATHLEEN CANNON

“Girls on the Run is so much fun! At Girls on the Run we do so much more than run! We equip girls with the tools for self-respect and a healthy lifestyle. The spirit, accomplishment and joy girls receive from our program is evident at our amazing season ending 5K events through smiles, tears and hugs.”

CASSIE MARESH

PROGRAM COORDINATOR

“I love Girls on the Run for the themes discussed throughout the season and the skills our young women gain. Being able to walk/run/skip alongside these girls as they encounter growth and glowing moments in their journey is an unparalleled opportunity. Girls on the Run is so much fun!”

Kelsey McKenna

“I love that every girl has a place at GOTR, and our teams are so intentional in understanding and celebrating our differences. Our dedicated coaches provide an inclusive and engaging environment for each girl to foster relationships, build leadership skills, and become a valued member of her community.”

Holly Reed

Program Coordinator

“My favorite part is getting to see the girls make connections between what they learn in practice and the real world. The confidence they gain from the program is inspiring.”

We're always considering passionate individuals to join our team and help us inspire more girls in the Twin Cities area.
